The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 379 points at 11,316 on the back of global meltdown. The index slipped deeper and broke the 11,000-mark in the first hour of trade on Wednesday. The index is now down 663 points at 11,032.
The NSE Nifty is down 192 points at 3,415.
Sterlite has slumped nearly 12% to Rs 277, and Satyam [Get Quote] has plunged 10.8% to Rs 249.
TCS [Get Quote] has tumbled over 9% to Rs 522. Tata Steel [Get Quote], HDFC Bank [Get Quote] and Reliance Infrastructure have shed around 8.5% each to Rs 326, Rs 1,030 and Rs 596, respectively.
